DEGREE OF ELECTRICAL PROTECTION |
INGRESS PROTECTION RATING | ||||||
|
Class I: Luminaires that require an earth connection. All parts of this type of product where conductive parts could be touched, and in case of defect can cause an electric shock, require earth protection. |
What is an IP rating? An IP rating, or Ingress Protection rating, tells you how well a light fitting or electrical product is protected against solid objects, dust, and water. The rating is usually written as two letters followed by two numbers, for example: IP65.

|
Class II: Luminaires that do not require earth connection. Double insulated materials are used in fabrication, therefore no parts could cause an electric shock by accidental touch. Class III: Luminaires for low voltage use (not exceeding 24V) supplied through a safety transformer such as LED's or low voltage lamps. |
The first number identifies the protection degree against the entry of solid objects and dust 0. No protection. 2. Protection against fingers or similar objects. 4. Protection against the entry of small objects larger than 1mm. 5. Dust protected, some dust may enter but not enough to affect operation. 6. Complete protection against the entry of dust. |

LIGHT OUTPUT Kelvin (K): Represents the colour temperature of a light source. Below is a breakdown of typical colour temperatures used: 3000K - Warm white light 4000K - Natural white light 6000K - Cool white light Lumen (Lm): Technical terminology for how much light a light source or luminaire emits. |
The second number identifies the protection degree against the entry of liquid 0. No protection. 1. Protection against dripping water 4. Protection against splashing water. 5. Protection against water jets. 6. Protection against powerful water jets. 7. Protection against temporary immersion. 8. Protection against continuous immersion. |

It is important that these recommendations are adhered to,
as they affect the lifespan and warranty of our exterior luminaires.
Costal:
Fittings suitable for installation in proximity to the sea, as well as for inland installation.
Inland:
Suitable for installation not closer than 8km, in air distance, from the sea.
The Lumen definition used is intended to specify the RAW lumen of a light source.
To calculate EFFECTIVE lumen, factors such as diffuser thickness, lamp distance from the diffuser,
beam angle and electrical losses in lamp output need to be considered.
