Il Fanale is a distinguished Italian lighting company celebrated for its
deep-rooted craftsmanship, material authenticity, and distinctive
Mediterranean design language. Founded in 1979 by Fausto Dalla Torre and his
wife Luisa Martin near Treviso, the company began as a small artisanal
workshop dedicated to producing high-quality lamps using traditional
metalworking techniques. From the outset, Il Fanale focused on working with
raw materials such as brass, copper, and iron—often treated with a unique,
family-kept oxidation process that gives each piece a distinctive and timeless
character.
Over more than four decades, Il Fanale has evolved from a local workshop into
an internationally recognised lighting brand, while remaining firmly rooted in
its artisanal heritage. The second generation—Marzia Dalla Torre and Tomas
Dalla Torre—has brought renewed energy and a contemporary vision to the
company, expanding its collections and global presence. Their leadership has
introduced new stylistic directions, blending rustic, industrial, and modern
influences while maintaining the brand's core identity.
At the heart of Il Fanale's philosophy is a commitment to craftsmanship, where
traditional hand-making techniques are combined with modern technology to
create lighting that is both functional and expressive. The company sees each
luminaire as a “work of light,” shaped not only by technical precision but
also by human touch and creativity. This approach is closely tied to its
Mediterranean inspiration—an aesthetic that draws on warm tones, natural
materials, and a fusion of cultural influences to create designs that feel
both timeless and contemporary.
Il Fanale's values centre on quality, authenticity, and a strong connection
between tradition and innovation. The company places great emphasis on
material research, technical excellence, and collaboration with architects and
designers, ensuring that each product balances beauty, function, and
durability. Beyond simply providing illumination, Il Fanale aims to create
lighting that tells a story—objects that enrich spaces emotionally and
aesthetically while reflecting the enduring spirit of Italian design.
