The sophisticated reception counter of the Mezzanine showroom
is subtly lit with Kardan LED downlights from Spazio.
Mezzanine’s cool, contemporary Parktown North showroom is a clear reflection of the interior, furniture and homeware design brand’s values: simple, modern and accessibly sophisticated, with a focus on quality.
Meet Lee-Ann Bell, the woman behind it all.
- LIGHT: What are some key lighting and design trends for 2018?
LEE-ANN: Most notable trends seem to be the built-in strip lighting within built-in cupboards and cabinets, where the lighting becomes a design feature within the furniture piece. There’s also a move to more sombre interiors with timber oiled in charcoal or black as well as heavily textured upholstered items.
- LIGHT: What are the key colours and shapes for 2018?
LEE-ANN: Dirty pinks, rust and deep and moody greens and blues are the colours we are leaning towards at the moment.
- LIGHT: What do you love about what you do?
LEE-ANN: Being creative and helping clients create their dream spaces. Everyday is a new challenge and there is always something to learn and explore within the industry, from new fabrics to techniques and trends.
- LIGHT: What Spazio piece would you put in your home or office this year?
LEE-ANN: We have utilised the Alpha Spot and track system in our showroom. It is so effective in highlighting our furniture and we have received countless compliments on this feature.
- LIGHT: What is it that makes Spazio products unique?
LEE-ANN: From the great range of imported brands to local products, Spazio caters for everybody’s tastes. We particularly like the simple and clean aesthetic that Spazio offers, which complements our preferred modern and minimal interiors.
Mies van der Rohe was famous for his maxim, “Less is more.”
It’s interior designer Lee-Ann Bell’s favourite quote,
from her favourite architect. It’s also the principle
on which she built Mezzanine 18 years ago.
Mezzanine’s bespoke furniture and homeware range
is displayed alongside products imported from
Europe and sourced from South African designers.
Lee-Ann says that they are often complimented on the
LED spot and track system from Spazio and how effectively
it is at highlighting and displaying furniture in the showroom.
